There is none! To be crystal clear, the The Online Training is in no way associated with the LEGO Group. The LEGO Group developed the basics of the LEGO® Serious Play® method and now allow anyone to use it under a creative commons licence. The material in Learn LSP, modifies and extends the LEGO® Serious Play® method. LEGO encourage people to get trained in the LEGO® Serious Play® method to ensure sessions are delivered to a high standard. They don’t run any official LSP training programs themselves and have chosen not to endorse any particular external training provider. As such the Online Training is not endorsed, authorised or sponsored by The LEGO Group. But it is totally awesome.
Yes! To get started with the course you will need some LEGO to use and practise with. You can raid your children’s LEGO if you need to (it’s ok, it’s for work). Or buy a small simple set from a local store. In the course we show you how to build the perfect kit and where to source your LEGO from. There are specific LEGO Serious Play kits and we’ll go through those as well.
Each module is around 10 – 15 minutes long. For a sane person going through at a normal rate you can be up and delivering your first workshop within a week.
I’m in a unique position to answer this question because I run both (The Online Training and an in-person course in Australia). In some ways they’re exactly the same, in other ways the two courses are totally different. Let me explain… For both courses you will come out of the experience knowing how to run a workshop using LEGO® Serious Play®. You’ll learn similar basic steps and broad activities. Where they differ is in three important areas:
I encourage everyone to explore in-person courses so they can make an informed choice on the best learning experience for them.
First thing to note is that there is no official LEGO® Serious Play® certification program. There are certification programs out there. I run one in Australia and there are popular ones in the US and Europe. All the “certification” part means is that the organisation that trains you is satisfied that you are skilled in the LEGO® Serious Play® method by the end of the training. I check this in my in-person course through getting participants to design their own sessions, run their session in front of us and then receive feedback. If they know their stuff they get a certificate and are “certified”. You’ll be doing a similar process online to become a certified facilitator. We’ll check your competency and you’ll get a certificate. You don’t have to go through this extra step and become certified, you can run sessions without it. But it’s well worth it to show you are skilled in this amazing method.
OK, so everyone’s situation is a little bit different and of course I can’t guarantee results, but I can give you the exact blueprint, tools, activities that I’ve used for success with LEGO® Serious Play®. Now you’ll need to combine what you learn in this course with your own experience and judgement to make sure you have success in your particular situation. There are literally hundreds of people around the world using LEGO® Serious Play® successfully. In a wide range of fields and for very diverse uses. LSP as a method is very flexible. It can be applied to many (but not all!) types of conversations / meetings / workshops. There is a time and effort commitment to success. This course is not for someone who wants to cruise through things, who wants easy/lazy overnight success. LEGO® Serious Play® is a skill that needs to be learnt and worked on and improved. Like many of the other skills you use to be successful in your chosen field. This is the right course for you if you’re looking to be innovative. If you’re looking to change the way you run workshops and meetings. If you’re looking to add an amazing new method to your toolkit that unlocks ideas and experiences in people like no other method I’ve seen.
Short answer: No you don’t need to be a facilitator to run meetings and workshops with LEGO® Serious Play®. Long Answer: The skill of running meetings, workshops and public speaking are definitely complimentary to your LSP skills. As in if you have experience running meetings and workshops and are confident in front of a group then that will improve the session. BUT the LEGO® Serious Play® method follows a nice and simple process that does take the pressure off new or inexperienced presenters. The structure of the method takes the focus off you and on to the activities and the participants. In the Online Training we also go over some great tips and tricks for facilitating sessions. So if you feel like your facilitating skills are either beginner or intermediate don’t worry. Running a session with LSP will probably help improve those other skills as well.
No way! Once you’ve learnt the LEGO® Serious Play® method you are free to use it in as many workshops as you want all the way until your old and grey. Seriously in 50 years time you can still be running them in a nursing home. The only extra cost is buying the LEGO. And you can get set up with a kit for 6-8 people for under $250.
We believe so strongly in the power of LSP and our program we’re happy to back it 100%. The Online Training comes with a 30 day, 100% money back guarantee.
